Corporate Background
Pelaburan MARA Berhad (PMB); formerly known as Amanah Saham Mara Berhad (ASMB) was incorporated on 24 June 1967 is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). PMB commenced its business on 1 July 1967. Presently, the Group has four wholly-owned subsidiary companies and is principally involved in unit trust management, fund and asset management, unquoted investment, nominee services and property holding.
PMB is one of the pioneers in the local unit trust industry and launched its first fund in 1968. Its wholly-owned subsidiary ASM Investment Services Berhad manages 14 funds including 5 Bumiputera funds, 9 public funds and a fund specially for all employees and pensioners of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), members of Board of Directors of TNB, the clubs and associations related to TNB and subsidiary companies of TNB. ASM Investment also manages one structured fund.
In its determination to participate in and propel the nations growth, PMB has identified various businesses to widen its horizon and increase its earnings base. In line with this, the Group has ventured into the property sector by purchasing its own 5-storey building along Jalan Lumut in Kuala Lumpur. In addition to housing the group’s operations the building also generates rental income from two of the floors which are being rented out. Subsequently, the Group also purchased several residential properties for rental purposes.
Venture Capital / Mezanine Financing
PMB has set up a department to undertake equity investment in unquoted companies through the establishment of a Venture / Mezzanine Capital Fund. PMB is listed as an approved Bumiputera institution for equity participation in accordance with the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) and Ministry of Finance (MOF) guidelines.
The department seeks high growth and profitable companies to invest in, with the ultimate objective of assisting them to obtain a listing on the Malaysian Stock Exchange (KLSE).
