PELABURAN MARA CELEBRATES 55TH ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW FUND LAUNCH AND SIGNING OF TWO AGREEMENTS

Kuala Lumpur – Pelaburan MARA Berhad (Pelaburan MARA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of MARA Corporation Sdn Bhd, today celebrated its 55th Anniversary. The celebration was graced by the Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

Pelaburan MARA, formerly known as Amanah Saham MARA Berhad, was established on 24 June 1967 with the aim of creating awareness and educating the Bumiputera community to participate in investments. This initiative also aimed to increase their equity ownership, especially during the 1960s, when the majority of Bumiputeras were farmers and fishermen.

The company played a significant role as an entity representing Bumiputera interests in participating directly in the nation’s economy, particularly by holding equity in companies listed on the Malaysia-Singapore Stock Exchange.

In his speech, Datuk Seri Mahdzir stated, “Pelaburan MARA Berhad has become part of the historical struggle for Bumiputera rights in their own homeland. This proves the government's commitment, from the very beginning, to continually support the Bumiputera development agenda, particularly in rural areas.”

He added, “We should take pride in the fact that the involvement of the rural Bumiputera community in unit trust investments began with the fund managed by Amanah Saham MARA Berhad, which was launched in 1968.”
